One Million Subscriptions Sold and Counting: Cengage Unlimited Achieves Significant Milestone in Just Seven Months of Commercial Availability

College Students Have Saved $60 Million Using Unlimited Subscription Service for Textbooks and Course Materials

BOSTON—February 25, 2019 – Cengage today announced that its new subscription service, Cengage Unlimited, has sold one million subscriptions in just seven months of commercial availability.  The industry’s first-of-its-kind subscription for college textbooks and course materials, Cengage Unlimited offers complete access to more than 22,000 products, including eBooks, online homework access codes and study guides.

“This significant milestone underscores how an incumbent can serve as a catalyst for an industry in need of change.  One million subscriptions sold in only seven months shows that students are willing to embrace new solutions that offer value.  With Cengage Unlimited, we are well on the path to removing barriers that have caused students to limit their course load, change majors, skip meals or forgo buying materials because they cannot afford them,” said Michael E. Hansen, CEO, Cengage.

In addition to unlimited access to textbooks and course materials, a Cengage Unlimited subscription includes free access to offerings from Kaplan, Quizlet and Chegg, with more to come soon. Students pay one price for the subscription—no matter how many materials they use.  Subscriptions cost $119.99 a semester ($179.99 a year) and are available directly from Cengage, online or at campus and off-campus bookstores. Print rentals are available for $7.99 with free shipping.

Considering students spend, on average, about $500 annually (with some spending significantly more), the subscription can save students half or more of what they were paying previously. Students may use their financial aid to purchase a subscription, either through Cengage or through the bookstore.

Students using Cengage products can access a simple digital savings calculator to see if Cengage Unlimited is the right choice for them.  To reveal their potential savings, students simply type in the ISBN for their products.  And, an interactive Savings Map allows faculty, administrators and students to see which courses use Cengage at their institution.  The map highlights more than 500 schools to date.

“Students have already saved $60 million this academic year,” Hansen continued.  “We are very pleased with our success to date and look forward to offering students even more ways to achieve affordable access to quality learning.”

TULSA, OK—February 6, 2019–GrahamMe®: The Daily Giveaway is the first application that awards scholarships and cash prizes by simply following official rules of play and exercising the user’s imagination. The mobile application is now available on the App Store (iOS).

GrahamMe®: The Daily Giveaway puts the player’s imagination to the test by competing with others to combine the best gif and phrase in a time-controlled environment. Within the app, users will no longer think inside the parameters but outside the box to become successful. The App is an innovative new experience where college students compete nationally with other college students for scholarships without any academic bias. Cengage Offers College Students Free Access to Career Resources with Cengage Unlimited Subscription

Cengage Unlimited “Career Center” offers tools to help students explore career options, learn employability skills, build resumes and more

BOSTON, February 7, 2019 — The majority of current and former college students (77 percent) are worried about having the skills needed for a job, and many (65 percent) say finding a job is more difficult today compared to their parents’ generation, according to a recent survey conducted by Morning Consult on behalf of Cengage.

In the same survey, employers said “uniquely human” or soft skills – listening, attention to detail effective communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills – are among the top skills they look for, but they have a hard time finding the right candidates.

Recognizing the need for more career assistance and soft skills development to aid the transition from college to career, Cengage has added a free Career Center for subscribers of Cengage Unlimited, the first all-access subscription for higher education course materials. The Career Center allows students to explore careers, assess their skills, build resumes and access career-readiness support, including in-demand soft skills training.

“The primary reason most students go to college is to get a job,” said Michael Hansen, CEO, Cengage. “If we want to help students reach that goal, we must offer affordable access to quality learning materials that help them build the required skill set to bridge the gap from college to the workforce.”

The Career Center allows students to explore career paths available to them and discover important job facts, such as salary, growth trends and the skill sets employers are looking for. Students can also access career-readiness tutorials – 10-minute, self-paced modules – to brush up on the top employer requested soft skills and to get advice and practical tips on the job search and interview process. Resume and portfolio-building tools are also available.

Cengage Unlimited offers complete access to more than 22,000 digital course materials, including eBooks, online homework access codes and study guides. Students pay one price – $119.99 a semester ($179.99 a year) —no matter how many materials they use. More than 500,000 U.S. college students have already subscribed to Cengage Unlimited since it became available in August 2018. Students are expected to save $60 million in the 2018-19 academic year.
