KORU LAUNCHES NEW, UNIQUE JOB FINDER FOR COLLEGE GRADS

Koru Logo

Koru’s free job finder helps job seekers showcase their skills and strengths, gives actionable feedback on every application and provides access to a network of great employers

Seattle, WA (October 6, 2015) – Today Koru Inc. (www.joinkoru.com), the leading talent marketplace focused on landing college grads in jobs they love, announces the launch of their free online job finder. Koru’s job finder helps recent and soon-to-be college graduates discover the best jobs for them using Koru’s patent-pending “check fit” assessment, build a job application that stands out, and get feedback and coaching to help them improve the impact of their job search. The Koru team then delivers the application directly to employers, highlighting best-fit candidates.

Today’s job application process for recent college grads is plagued with problems. Most often, applicants don’t hear anything back, feel as though their resumes land in a black hole, and they don’t receive feedback about how to improve their application or skills. In fact, 53% of recent college grads are either unemployed or underemployed , and have an average of $30,000 in student debt.

The job finder builds on Koru’s more than two years’ experience working with colleges and employers, preparing and landing gritty, job-ready college grads in great companies. With up to an 87% employment rate for it’s grads, Koru has leveraged learnings and networks from its transformational program to develop this groundbreaking new job fit assessment and application process.

Koru’s new job finder debuts a host of unique features to help job seekers get the attention of great employers and to help employers quickly source and screen from a more diverse pool of great candidates.
● Job fit: Koru has created a proprietary “check fit” assessment, based on its Koru7 JobStrengths™, that helps match a job seeker’s strengths to Koru’s portfolio of positions from top companies, helping ensure that job seekers find their best job fits and employers find their best candidates.
● Unique application: The new, unique application process helps job seekers highlight their best selves by showing what they are capable of and where they stand in the areas that indicate high job performance such as grit, analytical rigor, teamwork, and the ability to drive business impact.
● Feedback and coaching: Helping to solve the job seeker’s “resume black hole” dilemma, Koru’s job finder provides feedback on every application from a professional staff of experienced coaches.
● Wide corporate network: Job seekers will now know where they stand, as Koru will deliver applicants to their corporate network of top companies like: Airbnb, Facebook, HubSpot, LinkedIn as well as non-profits like EarthCorps and high-growth startup partners like Trupanion.

“In today’s race for high performing talent, many employers are looking for more than a resume. Our new job finder helps grads present their best authentic selves and get noticed. We give actionable feedback throughout the job application process so they can continue to improve and get hired,” said Kristen Hamilton, co-founder and CEO of Koru. “Additionally, we’ve developed relationships with great companies and we deliver our job seekers’ applications into the right hands, acting as an advocate for the applicants.”

Pilot user Taylor Denton found Koru’s job finder made a significant difference in her ability to get the attention of an employer. “My resume didn’t say enough about what I could really do. Koru’s job finder was so different. I could really show off what I was capable of. Employers could get to know me versus what I looked like on a piece of paper,” said Taylor. “Trupanion was able to gauge the type of employee that I would be, and I think it turned out to be a really good fit.” Taylor was hired at Trupanion through Koru’s job finder. She had previously been turned down by the company when she applied through a standard job board.

Koru is also working to change the game for employers, who often have a hard time telling one resume from another when hiring for entry-level positions. Koru’s application is based on the Koru7 JobStrengths™ — skills and competencies that are most predictive of early-career job performance — helping employers make better and faster hiring decisions.

“Koru’s online job finder gives us a new way to look at early-career candidates across dimensions that are often difficult to illuminate in a traditional phone screen or interview. That’s incredibly valuable,” said Stacey Klimek, VP of People at Payscale.

For more information on Koru’s job finder, please visit: www.joinkoru.com

Golden Door Scholars Expands Reach of College Scholarship Program for High-Performing Undocumented Students

Golden_Door_LogoBIG

Nonprofit organization to partner with distinguished universities to award
up to 50 full-ride scholarships for 2016-17 academic year

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (September 23, 2015) – Golden Door Scholars (GDS), a 501c3 organization that creates economic mobility for high performing, highly motivated undocumented students, today announced plans to expand the program exponentially, awarding up to 50 scholarships for the 2016-17 academic year. Previously, GDS focused on students from North and South Carolina, but will now accept applications from all 27 states that still have tuition inequity.

“We’ve been incredibly impressed by our 45 scholars, who are currently excelling at some of the nation’s top universities,” said Ric Elias, Golden Doors Scholars Founder and CEO of Red Ventures. “Their success has emboldened us to double down on our efforts and help even more of the exceptionally talented young people being left behind by existing policies and bureaucracy. This isn’t a political issue; it’s a human rights issue.”

Founded in 2012, GDS provides scholarships, mentorship and professional development to high performing undocumented students known as Dreamers, who came to the United States with their parents as young children and are legally protected by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The majority of these students and their families live in states where they aren’t afforded in-state tuition rates for post-secondary education, making college out of reach financially.

“There’s a common misconception that a large number of private scholarships are available to undocumented students, which make up for a lack of federal aid and in-state tuition,” said Debra J. Chermonte, Vice President and Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid at Oberlin College. “The reality is that very few scholarships of any kind are open to undocumented students, and only a handful help Dreamers. We are proud to partner with Golden Door Scholars in the fight for equal access to higher education for all students.”

Nationally recognized institutions such as Davidson College and Wake Forest University currently partner with the Golden Door Scholars team, and Oberlin College has already signed on as partner for the upcoming academic year.

“With more than a half a million unfilled, high-paying technology jobs available in the United States today, educating students to help meet that demand helps position them well for continued success,” said Kacey Grantham, Executive Director of Golden Door Scholars. “With that in mind, we’re placing added emphasis on identifying scholars with an interest in technology-related fields.”

The application deadline is Oct. 27 for students expecting to start college in fall 2016. Interested students can check out eligibility requirements and application guidelines at www.GoldenDoorScholars.org.

About Golden Door Scholars
Founded in 2012, Golden Door Scholars invests in education and career preparedness for high-performing Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) students. More than 65,000 undocumented students graduate from high school every year with limited ability to afford college. In addition to scholarship funding, Golden Door Scholars focuses on career preparedness by pairing each student with a mentor and offering professional development opportunities. Scholarship recipients also commit to “pay it forward” by helping fund scholarships after they graduate. Learn more at www.GoldenDoorScholars.org.

INTRODUCING: PAY YOUR SELFIE™, THE FIRST APP THAT PAYS CASH TO ANYONE FOR SELFIES

PayYourSelfie

For Immediate Release. CHICAGO, Ill. (September 22, 2015) — More than 100 million selfies are taken daily. Finally, selfie takers can earn cash for those selfies with Pay Your Selfie: the first app that pays any selfie-taker real cash for their selfies, provided they are 18 years old or older.

Available for iOS and Android, Pay Your Selfie works like this: users download the app for free and start taking selfies that match “selfie tasks” worth cash, such as showing off your tattoo, dancing at a concert, or sipping your favorite soda. New tasks valued up to $1 each are available weekly. Users also can import selfies from their smartphone’s camera roll.

When a user’s piggy bank reaches $20, they can cash out and receive a check in the mail or choose to donate their selfie cash to charity.

“We make the common selfie pay off for everyone,” said Michelle Smyth, CEO of Pay Your Selfie. “Selfies capture special moments — people you care about, joyful places, things that make life easier and better. We think it’s time everyone earns money doing what they already love to do.”

Pay Your Selfie offers sponsored selfie opportunities to advertisers for brand engagement and consumer insights. “We connect brands with consumers in a unique and engaging way,” said Smyth. “People who use our app say it’s a fun and easy way to earn a buck. For brands, we deliver a direct way to reach active and social consumers who like to express their lifestyles through selfies.”

Pay Your Selfie also runs “Selfless Selfie” campaigns, raising awareness and funds for partner charities and non-profit causes. Each selfie taken on behalf of a non-profit partner goes directly to the organization, rather than into a user’s piggy bank.

About Pay Your Selfie
Pay Your Selfie connects brands with consumers using selfies as the medium. For consumers, Pay Your Selfie pays cash for selfies, turning social currency into real currency. For brands, we offer a performance-based mobile marketing platform that delivers consumer engagement and insights. Pay Your Selfie is available for free at the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
