DoSomething.org Kicks Off Voter Catalyst Network to Drive Gen Z’s Engagement in the 2024 Presidential Election

[New York, New York] – DoSomething, org, the leading hub for youth-centered activism, announces the launch of its Voter Catalyst Network (VCN) 2024 peer-to-peer voter registration campaign. Building on our track record of success in registering over 415,000 voters since 2018, DoSomething is launching this initiative to buttress our Art of Democracy program to ensure Gen Z’s voice is heard at the polls and beyond. The VCN trains and supports a network of young people under 25 to become Voter Captains in their communities.

Drawing from three decades of successfully driving young people toward peer-to-peer civic engagement, DoSomething will mentor new “Voter Captains.”  Voter Captains will be trained to host voter registration drives for their peers and community members to foster a culture of active citizenship. The captain who registers the most votes will earn an all-expense-paid trip to New York City to attend DoSomething’s Election Night Party. Voter Captains will also have access to exclusive swag, and will earn Volunteer Credits for their participation.

A recent Harvard Youth Poll that surveyed 18-to 29-year-olds revealed that only 49% said they “definitely” will be voting, compared to 57% in 2019. VCN comes at a time when Gen Z’s understanding of their power in shaping election outcomes is critical. “There are over 41 million Gen Z voters who are newly eligible to vote in the upcoming 2024 Presidential Election. Over 8 million of them would be first-time voters. The Voter Catalyst Network is a powerful tool for young people to do something to ensure this generation claims our democracy and their role in shaping it. ” explains DeNora Getachew, CEO of DoSomething.org.

The Voters Catalyst Network is part of DoSomething’s Art of Democracy program, which educates and equips the next generation of young voters with the identity, knowledge and skills to share their civic story and become a force for change in and out of the voting booth. This builds on the organization’s  2023 pilot of Art of Democracy through which DoSomething convened 850 young people in person in New York City. By scaling this work in key states in 2024, DoSomething will  convene over 5,000 young people through live events. The organization will also collect and amplify stories shared by over 10,000 young people online and offline to build a National Youth Agenda to ensure Gen Z’s voices are heard in our election.

Applications for Voter Captain positions are now open on a rolling basis and will close on September 1, 2024. To become a catalyst for change in your community apply to become a Voter Captain at DoSomething.org/vcn.
